Pictured are some of the Guild members who were present at the formal handing over ceremony in Biggar Municipal Hall, surrounding retiring Cornet Ewan MacAlpine with the new standard. Ewan is flanked, on his left, by Guild Chair Ms. Susan Morgan-Jones, who sourced all the materials for the flag, and on his right by Mrs. Jessie Jackson. The emblems on the banner were each stitched by a different member and the whole project was co-ordinated by Mrs Jackson, one of the earliest members of the guild and still, at 82 years, stitching the most exquisite work. She it was who assembled the completed flag and added the finishing decoration, not forgetting the ribbons of all the former Cornets. The venerable old standard has not been discarded . It is destined to see out its retirement in one of the town's many museums

The Guild is grateful to the Community Council for permission to publish the images shown here. Both this and the larger image were taken by photographer Peter Rae.
