© Kenneth Russell Kenneth writes - ' My inspiration for this particular clock was the 19th Century bracket clock case (approx. dimensions:- height 16"[405mm] width 10.375" [260mm] depth 6.375" [160mm]) which has been in my possession for a number of years. Having had its movement damaged beyond repair many years ago I have long promised to give it a new lease of life with a new movement. Although the clock is of a traditional design, I have incorporated a 21st Century spring drive in place of the more usual fusee. All the parts of the clock were produced from brass sheet, brass bar and steel bar. The wheels, for instance, are produced by cutting discs from brass sheet, turning them in a lathe and forming the teeth before mounting them on arbors turned from steel bar. (The movement for this clock is shown in the Craftsmen and Craft Groups entry on clydevalley.net.) Obviously I do not have a supply of empty clock cases, so for some of my clocks I have collaborated with other craftsmen for the case-making. I am happy to discuss commissions.' |
