Children o' The Mist

by Wullie Ormiston

This track is written and performed by Wullie on guitar, whistle and vocals. It was inspired by a book about the Clan MacGregor which he read which described these lawless times past when clans united to fight against clans and when cattle rieving was a common way of gaining wealth and putting meat on the table. Alistair MacGregor and his clansment attacked and defeated the Colquhouns of Luss at Glenfruin in 1603. In response, King James VI proscribed the name MacGregor and outlawed the clan, forbidding them to carry arms of from meeting in groups of more than four. The Earl of Argyll was charged with the task of seeing that these orders were obeyed. The MacGregors then dispersed into the hills and glens to become, in the words of Sir Walter Scott, 'The Children of the Mist'.

The track lasts for 3 minutes. It is stored in mp3 format which will download and play on most computers (Winamp should play it. So too should Audacity). The download time may be long (many minutes) over a slow connection and most computers won't begin to play the song until it has downloaded completely. But IT IS WORTH WAITING FOR.
