Hi there from Don and me. This month the New Makars Trust project is nearing the end of a two year endeavour in South Lanarkshire focussing on Clydesdale horses. Three of our showcase items have been provided by contributors to that project. Robin Laing can be heard singing 'David and Goliath', John Zawadzki provides a photograph of Clydesdales in action and the children of (last year's) P4 at Biggar Primary School provide a lyric to another song about these magnificent beasts. But not everything happening in the Clyde valley is to do with Clydesdale horses. 'Station Wood' is the title of Andrew McCallum's short story about love and death and the great god Pan. A Viking sea-horse is the motif for one of Maggie Harland's sterling silver bangles and a steel alloy-worker is the subject of Ronnie Brown's drawing. Enjoy them all! Meantime, don't forget to keep us posted about any events that you/your group are planning, and please spread the word about this website to others who might be interested? We would like to create a 'Links' page to other websites with good information about arts and culture in Scotland. We get tired of struggling through Google to find sites with complicated navigation which, at the end of much clicking, tell us that a page cannot be displayed or cough up a few miserable scraps of information or direct us to yet further places in cyberspace. So, next time you come across an easily-accessed website about arts and/or culture please send us the address together with a comment of your own and we will use it on our 'Links' page Last, but not least, have a great festive season! All the best from Joanne and Don |
