Hi from Don and Joanne,

This is our first newsletter of the new year so we send best wishes to
you and your families for the rest of 2006.

Showcase is once more filled with an interesting selection of work There’s a poem by June Ritchie and a short story by John Hinge, both members of the Biggar Writers’ Group; a soapstone carving by Evelyn Whittle, a member of Mansefield Arts and Crafts; a photograph by Anthony Newlands; a painting by Sandy Grant and a song by Cruachan.

Please keep your contributions coming in.

Following the publication of the ‘Culture Commission Report’ on 19th January, “culture” is making headlines in Scotland at the moment. In mid-January we had the pleasure of meeting our local MSP Karen Gillon in the splendid setting of the new Parliament Building in Holyrood. Karen is a member of the Enterprise and Culture Committee and so she was interested in and supportive of what we are trying to do with clydevalley.net. You may have noticed that she has mentioned us in her diary in the Lanark Gazette.

Many thanks to all those of you who have checked your group’s events and dates and told us of any changes that are needed.

It’s always worth having a look at the Notice Board too, while you’re enjoying the new Showcase. There’s lots of interesting news on it about local artists, musicians, writers, etc. Have a look.

Joanne and Don
