Hi there from Don and me. A couple of weeks ago we were at Music in Lanark's traditional music concert by 'Back of the Moon' and we had the chance to speak to the flute player in the group. He told us that he plays an Ormiston flute and that so do many of the younger players in the Scottish traditional bands. Well, this month, by sheer coincidence, you can both see and hear one played by the maker himself in our Showcase because we feature a tune from George Ormiston and also a close-up of a section of a wooden flute made by him. We also have a painting in three sections by Tom Henry, a poem by former Brownsbank poet in residence Matthew Fitt, a photograph of Loch Ard, taken by Libby Smith of the Carluke Camera Club and a short essay about Strathaven Writers' Guild, one year on, by Chris Ross, one of its founder members. They are all there for you to enjoy. Thanks to those contributors this month and to all of those who have already sent in works for future showcases. Keep them coming! Our events pages are accurate as far as the end of the month, and we will extend them beyond March during the next few days. If the pattern of your group meetings changes as the Springtime advances, please don't forget to let us know so that we can keep up-to-date. Also your group contact information might change if you have a concert or show or an AGM. Good wishes from us both. Joanne and Don
