This month's showcase features two songs by two of Clyde Valley's singer-songwriters. Robin Laing sings Jamie Penman and Tom Clelland sings The Grassmarket Butchers.

The songs are stored in mp3 format which will download and play on most computers. Each song plays for about 4.5 to 5 minutes. The download times may be quite long (many minutes) over a slow connection and most computers won't begin to play the song until it has downloaded completely. But they are worth waiting for.

Both these songs are published on a new CD, just released, called 'The Grassmarket Butchers' which contains a compilation of songs by different local songwriters on the subject of the Covenanters. The CD is made in partnership with The New Makar's Trust whose website is at www.newmakarstrust.org.uk. The Trust aims to promote songwriting about life in different communities in Scotland.

Robin will be presenting a programme called 'Clydesdales and Covenanters'  on 25th October at 1133 am on Radio Scotland. It will be about the Lanarkshire Songwriters and their two most recent CD projects. Tom, Robin and Peter Nardini have also just released CDs on their Whistleberry Music label, a new recording label, the launch of which will also be celebrated on October 27th at the Clydesdale Folk Club in Biggar.
