by June Ritchie

Just when you have had it
With this hellish country
The greyness
The bleakness
The dampness
The dreichness.
And make plans to escape
To endless sun and heat,
Spring sidles quietly through the door
And soothes you with a blue balm,
Or summer wheat is scorched white
And you avoid the midday's rays.
Or a crisp Autumn night.
Leaves jewels on trees.
So you reconsider
And stay.
