Keiran Halpin writes "Hi As many of you you may be aware, Kieran has been in Australia for most of the last year. He will return with his family in June and start gigging again in July. Would you be interested in a house concert from Kieran? Many of you may not be familiar with the concept of a House Concert - but they are very popular in the USA and Australia. What happens is that Kieran would come to your house and play in your kitchen/dining room/garage or garden (weather permitting) to an audience that you invite. He would play for 45 minutes/then a break/then again for 1 hour. He could play totally acoustic/with a very small PA or with the full rig if you wanted (your choice). The cost for this is £300 or €500 - plus hotel or B/B or he would be happy to stay in your house. The concert could be held any day of the week and start at any time you designated. Friday night or Saturday afternoon or night or Sunday afternoon or early evening are popular times. You can treat you friends or family to this event or ask your friends to pay a contribution to the total cost. Often people bring their own drinks and contribute to the food arrangements.

If you are interested please email back to us and we will try to organise this for you. July/August/September and early October are available. Best wishes and Kieran sends his greetings from Australia. SOS Records.

Fiona Gibson will be launching her latest novel, 'Mummy Said the F-word', in Biggar on February 21. It's the story of Caitlin, a single mother of three, who feels utterly unqualified to be an agony aunt on a swanky parenting magazine (think Vogue with pushchairs). Yet she soon discovers that her readers really do need her help - and finds herself taking her own advice. Especially when a mysterious male correspondent starts emailing her.

'Hilarious and heartening,' says In Style magazine 'Will have you chuckling to the last page' - Red magazine

Come along for a reading and a glass of wine at the Elphinstone Hotel, Biggar, at 8pm on Thursday, February 21. To reserve a free ticket call Atkinson-Pryce books on 01899 221225. 'Mummy Said the F-word' is published by Hodder and the price is £12.99.

John Dean writes "We would love your writers to be involved in this so welcome to the monthly Global Short Story Competition, an exciting opportunity for undiscovered writers everywhere. Our previous UK competitions attracted writers from Asia, Europe, Australia and the United States as well as aspiring authors all across the UK and Ireland. So, we got to thinking that the time was ripe a for global short story competition, designed to discover exciting new talent. And who are we looking for? Well, we are not looking for the big names of the literary world, rather the talented authors who remain to be discovered, the voices which are as yet unheard, the stories as yet untold. As a published novelist and creative writing tutor, I know there is a lot of talent out there, much of it yet to be discovered. This competition will seek to find, and celebrate, it. The first competition closes on December 31. The judge will be award-winning North-East England author Fiona Cooper. Writers wishing to find out more about the competition, or send entries, should visit www.globalshortstories.net The first prize is £100. Those who would rather post their entries, rather than go through the website entry system, can send them direct to my home address, at 18 Milbank Court, Darlington, Co Durham DL3 9PF, or to the Certys office at Livingstone House, 29 High Northgate, Darlington, Co Durham, England DL1 1UQ, marked Global Short Story Competition, and containing a £5 entry fee. I can be contacted on 01325-463813 or emailed at john.dean@certys.co.uk if you need more information. Many thanks for reading this and I do hope you feel you can support this venture."
