Tom Henry

Studied at Edinburgh College of Art 1979-1983 under Sir Robin Phillipson. Entered teaching 1984 and has taught in schools in Fort Augustus, Aberdeen and Edinburgh . Gave up full-time teaching in the summer of 2004 to pursue a career as a professional artist. Hopes to continue teaching on a part time basis and will be continuing with a career as a naval officer.

Works principally, though not exclusively, in oils and acrylics and enjoy painting both portraits and landscapes. The sea scenes come from experiences gained in his time at sea but he is also working on more figurative work in a broader range of colours.

He is always wary of the deep, meaningful interpretation of artwork and prefers to see his work for what it is, something that he enjoyed doing and that hopefully others will enjoy.

Moy Mackay

Moy Mackay graduated from Glasgow School of Art in 1990 with a BA (hons) degree in Design. Moy's paintings are created by replacing paint as a medium with dyed sheep's fleece. She uses finest quality merino tops from merino sheep, combining traditional felting techniques with embroidery. By means of rubbing and rolling the fibres are joined together to create the piece. Moy then adds the final embellishment by skilful embroidery, either by hand or machine, depending on the effect she is looking for. The final results are strikingly rich in colour and texture.

The nature of the medium requires a fine balance between spontaneity and control. This means that her finished work always carries an element of surprise, an aspect of the work particularly enjoys.

Moy's passion for colour is strongly reflected in her work. By using merino in a more painterly way she has created an innovative and new approach to painting. Moy exhibits throughout Scotland and examples of her work can be seen by visiting the Ruby Orange Gallery in Biggar.
